    Siding Installation, Replacement and Repair

Siding Installation, Replacement and Repair in Brookline

Homeowners reach out at three different points: a new build or addition that needs siding, an aging exterior ready for full replacement, or a single wall that needs attention. Our siding services in Brookline cover all three. Explore all siding services.

    New siding installation

    New siding installation

For additions, dormers, and new builds, our siding installation in Brookline starts at the sheathing. We confirm the substrate is sound, add house wrap and flashing at every opening, then install panels, corners, and trim so the wall sheds water as it should.
    Full siding replacement

    Full siding replacement

Every old panel comes off and gets hauled away. That exposes the sheathing, so we can address soft or water-stained areas before installing a fresh moisture barrier, new panels, and matching soffit, fascia, and trim. We handle permits and paperwork.
    Repair & maintenance

    Repair & maintenance

When most of the wall is still solid, targeted work makes sense. We replace cracked or storm-damaged panels, rebuild sections around windows and doors, re-paint old siding, re-caulk failing joints, and reseal penetrations so moisture stays outside, not behind the wall.
    Siding Materials
Cladding options built for New England freeze-thaw cycles

Brookline’s housing stock skews older – Victorians, colonials, and triple-deckers – so cladding has to survive freeze-thaw swings without warping or cracking. Here’s how the main siding materials compare on durability, upkeep, and curb appeal.

    Vinyl siding
    Vinyl siding

The budget-friendly workhorse: never needs painting, resists moisture, and comes in dozens of colors and profiles. Modern thicker panels hold their shape better in cold snaps, making vinyl a practical choice for new installations and vinyl siding replacement in Brookline, MA.

    Fiber cement siding

Cement, sand, and cellulose pressed into boards that mimic wood clapboard. It stays dimensionally stable through freeze-thaw cycles, resists fire and insects, and holds paint for years. It is heavy and needs precise cutting, so it comes up often for siding installation in Brookline neighborhoods with historic profiles to match.

    Fiber cement siding
    Wood siding
    Wood siding

The timeless New England classic: warm, dimensional, and easy to customize with virtually any paint or stain color. Cedar clapboards and shingles look especially at home on historic properties, which is why wood siding in Brookline, MA remains a favorite when preserving original character matters as much as curb appeal.

    Composite siding

The low-maintenance upgrade for homeowners who want the look of wood without the constant upkeep. Engineered for better resistance to moisture, insects, and everyday wear, composite siding delivers crisp lines and convincing texture while holding up well through New England’s changing seasons.

    Composite siding
    ACRE siding
    ACRE siding

The modern wood alternative with serious curb appeal: rich texture, clean profiles, and the freedom to paint or stain it for a truly custom finish. ACRE siding brings the warmth of natural wood without the same concerns about rot or insects, making it an increasingly attractive choice for high-end exterior renovations.

    Boral/TruExterior siding

The heavy-duty choice for detailed, wood-look exteriors. TruExterior siding takes paint beautifully and works especially well for clapboards, trim, and architectural details, making it a strong fit for Brookline renovations where durability can’t come at the expense of historic character.

    Boral/TruExterior siding
    Property Types We Side

Property Types We Side in Brookline

Brookline runs from Victorian singles to multi-family blocks to storefronts with apartments above – each with its own approvals and access quirks. We scope siding installation in Brookline around the property type. Questions about yours? Reach us via Contacts.

    Historic single-family homes

    Historic single-family homes

Victorians, colonials, and shingled cottages often sit inside local historic districts, where exterior changes go through design review first. We document trim profiles, corner boards, and shadow lines so the paperwork and the finished wall both match the house.
    Multi-family and condo buildings

    Multi-family and condo buildings

Two-family homes, three-deckers, and condo associations need trustee sign-off and clear notice to every unit. We phase the work elevation by elevation so residents keep normal access, and stage scaffolding clear of shared entries, exits, and driveways.
    Small commercial and mixed-use

    Small commercial and mixed-use

Storefronts with apartments above answer to a landlord and a tenant at once. We coordinate signage and awning details, follow the town’s permit and sidewalk-use rules for street-side staging, and plan the loudest steps around business hours.

We had a great experience with Plum Pro overall. Yuk was very professional and well-organized while working with us on a proposal and contract to fix our deck after it was severely damaged by a fallen tree. He set us up with an accelerated timeline to help us coordinate this project with some of our other repairs, and aside from some weather delays stuck to it pretty well overall.

We could not have asked for a better team than Plum ProExteriors for our siding and window project. From start to finish, the process went smoothly. At our initial meeting, Yuk did a great job of explaining all of the different options available for our project. He then provided us with a very detailed estimate that gave us the confidence that there would not be any hidden/surprise costs/fees, which there were not. Once the contract was signed, Yuk did a great job of communicating when the project would start.

Yuk and the crew at Plum ProExteriors did an excellent job installing 7 Pella Architectural double-hung windows in my 1911 Dutch Colonial. Prior to providing a proposal, Yuk measured not once but twice to ensure the windows fit perfectly. Two of three windows were part of a bay window where the frames were no longer perfectly square. None the less, the crew got the windows to fit without issue. They finished with caulking any gaps inside and out for all the windows and finished the job in one day. The crew was clean and neat and even took away the old storm window frames. I already have received compliments on how well the windows look. Their price was fair and I would definitely hire Plum ProExteriors again. Thanks guys!

Yuk is definitely an A+. I felt very comfortable with him and trusted throughout the entire process. We ran into a few issues along the way and that’s to be expected, but Yuk was always available and made good on his promises. If I had to criticize one thing it would be that he doesn’t have a great carpenter for interior finish work, but in fairness he did make me aware that this was not something his crew normally does. Love the end product and the neighbors do too!

We have a full house of windows to replace and we are so happy we found Yuk thanks to a recommendation on a local Facebook group. Yuk quoted the entire job and was transparent in his pricing. Yuk was patient walking us through the process and updating quotes when we decided to start only with the largest and least efficient windows.

I hired Plum ProExteriors based on the quality of work I saw when I came across a renovation project they were doing in the area. I had roof, windows, doors, siding and decking done.I was very impressed with the depth of knowledge Yuk has in his trade. Communication was excellent. He kept me updated on the progress when I wasn’t there. Yuk and his crew worked efficiently and more importantly the quality of work was exceptional.

    Brookline Siding Questions, Answered

What affects the cost of siding for a home in Brookline?

Square footage, material choice, wall complexity, and any rot found under the old siding drive the price, and tight-lot staging adds labor. Every estimate is free and itemized in writing – use our instant online calculator or contact the team.

What is the best time of year to install siding in Massachusetts?

Late spring through late fall is ideal – roughly April into November, when temperatures stay above 40°F and caulking, housewrap, and tape seal properly. Vinyl grows brittle in deep cold, so winter work is possible but slower and weather-dependent.

How long does a siding installation take?

Most homes run 3–7 days, weather permitting. A siding installation for a larger, multi-gable house in Brookline takes longer, and hidden sheathing repairs can add a day or two. We set a realistic window after the walkthrough.

Do I need a permit to re-side my home in Brookline?

Yes – re-siding requires a building permit from the town, and an inspector signs off once the work is finished. Homes inside a local historic district need design review before the permit is issued. We file that paperwork for you.

What siding material is best for older Brookline homes, vinyl or fiber cement?

It depends on the walls. Vinyl is lighter and more forgiving on out-of-plumb early-1900s framing. Fiber cement holds crisp profiles and paint, so it suits detailed trim – but it is heavy and needs sound sheathing. We check the structure first.

What voids a manufacturer’s siding warranty?

Usually installation shortcuts: nailing panels too tight so they cannot expand, skipping required flashing or ground clearance, going over damaged substrate, or painting vinyl darker than the maker allows. Correct, registered work keeps coverage intact.

Are financing or rebate programs like Mass Save available for siding projects?

Mass Save programs reward energy upgrades, so insulation added behind new siding may qualify even when the siding itself does not. Program terms change, so confirm current offers with Mass Save. We review payment options with you when we provide the estimate.

Why does a proper moisture barrier matter for siding installation?

Siding alone is not watertight. The housewrap behind it, with taped seams and flashing at windows and trim, is the drainage plane that sends wind-driven rain back out. Skip or tear it, and the damage shows up years later as rotted sheathing.
