    Deck Services

Deck Services We Offer in Rhode Island

From the first footing to the final railing, we build decks in Rhode Island from the ground up. Homeowners come to us for new builds, full tear-out replacements, and complete build work handled start to finish by one crew.

    New deck installation

    New deck installation

Adding a deck where there wasn’t one? We measure the yard, plan the layout based on how you’ll actually use the space, pull the permits, and build from footings to the final board. See what our deck installation services include.
    Deck replacement

    Deck replacement

When an older deck is sagging, splitting, or no longer safe underfoot, we remove the existing structure, check the ledger connection and footings, and rebuild to current code – often on the same footprint. More on our deck replacement services.
    Decking Materials
Decking Materials Built for Rhode Island Weather

Compare composite, traditional wood, and Brazilian Ipe. Rhode Island weather brings winter freeze-thaw cycles, while coastal air adds salt and moisture throughout the year. Each decking material handles those conditions differently – here is how three popular decking options hold up, season after season.

    Composite
    Composite

Composite decking is a popular option for Rhode Island homeowners who want the look of wood without the regular sanding, staining, and sealing. It works especially well for busy backyards and coastal properties where moisture and salt air can mean more maintenance for traditional lumber.

    Wood

Wood decking remains a natural fit for Rhode Island homes, from traditional Colonials to coastal cottages. Pressure-treated lumber and cedar bring warmth and visible grain that complements classic New England architecture, while stain and paint options make it easy to coordinate the deck with the home.

    Wood
    Brazilian Ipe
    Brazilian Ipe

It’s a premium choice for Rhode Island homeowners who want a dense hardwood with a refined appearance and excellent durability. For decks exposed to frequent foot traffic, changing seasons, and outdoor entertaining, Ipe delivers a substantial, high-end feel built for long-term use.

    Decks for Rhode Island Homes

Decks for Rhode Island Homes and Properties

The homes and sites we work on most across the Ocean State. Shoreline cottages, century-old mill-town houses, and new subdivisions inland – the decks in Rhode Island we build fall into three broad groups. Each one brings its own soils, framing, and permitting quirks, and we plan for them long before the first post hole is dug.

    Coastal and waterfront homes

    Coastal and waterfront homes

Shoreline and bayside properties take a beating from salt spray, steady wind, and sandy or ledge-heavy ground. We set footings and hardware to match that exposure. Salt air is hard on every surface, so homeowners often pair deck work with our Roofing contractors in Rhode Island.
Older homes due for a rebuild

Older homes due for a rebuild

Much of the state’s housing stock is decades old, and the porches and decks added over time are often tired. We inspect ledger attachment, sill condition, and existing framing first – the care a deck contractor Rhode Island homeowners trust brings to older walls.
    Newer homes adding outdoor space

    Newer homes adding outdoor space

In Cranston, Warwick, and the South County suburbs, plenty of newer single-family homes have a slider that opens onto nothing but grass. We work around grade changes, walkout basements, and tight lot lines to turn that backyard into a room you actually use.
    Why choose us

Why Rhode Island Homeowners Choose Plum ProExteriors

Exteriors are all we do – and the finished deck shows it. Hiring a crew to build decks in Rhode Island comes down to trust: who shows up, who pulls the permits, who picks up the phone. Here’s what homeowners tell us made the difference.

    8+ years on exteriors only

    8+ years on exteriors only

We do exterior work only, and we’ve been at it for 8+ years. No kitchens, no basements – just outdoor builds. That focus shows up in the framing details and flashing that keep a deck solid season after season.

    10+ industry certifications

    10+ industry certifications

Our team holds 10+ industry certifications and keeps that training current. Certified installation means your deck is built to the standard the materials were designed for – and to the standard local inspectors look for.

    500+ completed projects

    500+ completed projects

With 500+ completed projects behind us, we’ve already handled the surprises your build might throw our way: a soft ledger board, an awkward grade change, footings in rocky soil. Fewer unknowns means a steadier schedule for you.

    Licensed and insured crews

    Licensed and insured crews

We carry current license and insurance paperwork, and we’re glad to hand it over before anyone sets foot on your property. If something goes sideways on site, that coverage is ours to carry – never yours.

    Permits and code compliance handled

    Permits and code compliance handled

We prepare the required drawings, file the permit, and coordinate required inspections with the local building department. Every building department runs a little differently, and working through that paperwork is part of our job – not something we hand back to you.

One point of contact, start to finish

One point of contact, start to finish

You get one project lead from the first walkthrough to the final punch list. Same name, same number, same person who knows exactly what was promised – so nothing gets lost between the estimate and the last board.

We had a great experience with Plum Pro overall. Yuk was very professional and well-organized while working with us on a proposal and contract to fix our deck after it was severely damaged by a fallen tree. He set us up with an accelerated timeline to help us coordinate this project with some of our other repairs, and aside from some weather delays stuck to it pretty well overall.

The best contractor I’ve worked with on any project. Excellent communication throughout the whole process, took time to answer any questions or concerns, and the crew was great. They kept the work site very clean every day. We’re very happy with the results and with the whole process. Highly recommend.

We could not have asked for a better team than Plum ProExteriors for our siding and window project. From start to finish, the process went smoothly. At our initial meeting, Yuk did a great job of explaining all of the different options available for our project. He then provided us with a very detailed estimate that gave us the confidence that there would not be any hidden/surprise costs/fees, which there were not. Once the contract was signed, Yuk did a great job of communicating when the project would start.

Yuk and the crew at Plum ProExteriors did an excellent job installing 7 Pella Architectural double-hung windows in my 1911 Dutch Colonial. Prior to providing a proposal, Yuk measured not once but twice to ensure the windows fit perfectly. Two of three windows were part of a bay window where the frames were no longer perfectly square. None the less, the crew got the windows to fit without issue. They finished with caulking any gaps inside and out for all the windows and finished the job in one day. The crew was clean and neat and even took away the old storm window frames. I already have received compliments on how well the windows look. Their price was fair and I would definitely hire Plum ProExteriors again. Thanks guys!

Yuk is definitely an A+. I felt very comfortable with him and trusted throughout the entire process. We ran into a few issues along the way and that’s to be expected, but Yuk was always available and made good on his promises. If I had to criticize one thing it would be that he doesn’t have a great carpenter for interior finish work, but in fairness he did make me aware that this was not something his crew normally does. Love the end product and the neighbors do too!

We have a full house of windows to replace and we are so happy we found Yuk thanks to a recommendation on a local Facebook group. Yuk quoted the entire job and was transparent in his pricing. Yuk was patient walking us through the process and updating quotes when we decided to start only with the largest and least efficient windows.

I hired Plum ProExteriors based on the quality of work I saw when I came across a renovation project they were doing in the area. I had roof, windows, doors, siding and decking done.I was very impressed with the depth of knowledge Yuk has in his trade. Communication was excellent. He kept me updated on the progress when I wasn’t there. Yuk and his crew worked efficiently and more importantly the quality of work was exceptional.

    Rhode Island Deck Questions, Answered

What drives the cost of a new deck in Rhode Island?

Size drives most of the cost, then framing height, footing depth, decking material, and railing style. Stairs and sloped sites add labor. Get a free estimate with our instant online calculator or through Contacts.

What decking materials hold up best in New England weather?

Composite and dense hardwoods such as Ipe can both be strong choices for Rhode Island weather, depending on the look and maintenance level you want. Just as important are the framing, drainage, fasteners, and installation details beneath the surface – especially on coastal properties exposed to moisture and salt air.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Rhode Island?

Almost always, yes. Permits are issued locally, and the rules shift by town – setbacks, footing depth, rail height, and inspection points. Properties near the water can need extra review. Our crews pull the permits and meet the inspector for you.

How do I know if my deck needs repair or a full replacement?

Surface boards can be swapped when the framing, ledger, and footings are sound. Soft posts, rusted ledger fasteners, wobbling rails, or rot at the beam usually point to a rebuild. We inspect the structure first and tell you which one you’re facing.

What affects the schedule of a deck installation?

Permit review, deck size, and site access set the pace, along with material lead times and weather. Footing work can stall in a wet spring. We share a working schedule once the permit is cleared and flag any changes as soon as we see them.

What’s the difference between composite, wood, and Ipe decking?

Pressure-treated wood is often the most affordable option upfront but requires regular maintenance. Composite requires less routine upkeep and offers a consistent finish. Ipe is a dense premium hardwood known for its durability, rich color, and high-end appearance.
